Most of my friends who are into real progressive 70s stuff got there by way of Tool (or Pink Floyd).coffee grapes wrote:I find it funny how many people really have a dislike for Tool.
Parabol/Parabola are my favorites as well, in addition to46 and 2 and Lateralus(song). Wow I haven't listened to Tool since after 10k days came out. They're about due for another release aren't they?
Yeah, it's really a very unique exception for the kinds of band Tool is that they're as well known as they are. They got EXTREMELY lucky. It's very strange, because all of their characteristics (especially the art rock oriented ones) are similar to that of a small band that develops a small following and is regarded as great in their field by music critics but never takes off in the mainstream.
Tool once was this and I think that honestly is part of the reason the "pretentious" aspect of them still lingers around, very oddly for a mainstream band.
