This song will be included, and it marks in a way the more of a trip hop kinda vibe of the record. Its a year old one, but Im really liking it alot. Also, don't be turned off by the 808 bass, its not going to be a trap album, its the only song that features 808 haha.

What do you guys think of it?

Cheers!

I very much enjoy the track, I like the vocal(?) samples that make up the melody. It has its own vibe for sure

Thank you! It means alot, cause flipping vocals into instruments is one of my trademark sounds, that has evolved over the years :)

Here's a work-in-progress:
https://vocaroo.com/13VW8VdlqygM

Using reel-to-reel and space-echo to process sounds from keyboard and modular and then assembling them with a MPC. Arranging sounds in a sampled format is not a strength of mine so feedback on this would be welcome.

Texture-wise this sounds absolutely great! Nice psychedelic atmospherics.

Thank-you! Yeah I’m fairly happy with the general sound design but when I say I struggle with using samples of these sounds I mean I get stuck in looping ‘ruts’ where there is an over reliance on repetition. BOC of course are masters of avoiding these ruts, but it’s something I’m yet to learn. I’m used to being able to patch in generative modulation on a modular than keeps things changing, but instead with this track I wanted to run each sound through tape before sampling it. Conceptually I love that idea but it’s a bit of a stilted workflow I’m finding.

Oh okay I understand what you're saying, what kinda sampler or sample method are you using? Repetition can be perfectly fine imoho, as long as there are other things changing while something consistently loops, like adding additional layers of effects or textures, but I guess it depends on what your intention is. This track def gives me some earlier OPN vibes btw. I have a decent amount of experience when it comes to samplers, tho I mostly use trackers which some people find to be rigid and unfun (understandably in a lot of cases). But depending on how you sample stuff I might be able to give some additional advice!

I’m using an MPC One firstly to sequence via MIDI-to-CV to a modular or via MIDI to a keyboard synth and then I’m recording individual layers to tape (simply because I like the sound) one by one. Then I’m playing each back through outboard effects like a Space-Echo and sometimes a mono to stereo phaser back into the MPC One sometimes as phrases and sometimes as one shots. Once in the sampler I trim the samples and play them via pads onto the piano roll view (sometimes with quantisation, sometimes without). I add a little on-board digital effects like reverb then record the mixed stereo output into my interface on into Reaper and add some compression.

That reads very convoluted and I suppose it is. I know I’ve had better flow when I have a bank of samples already prepared rather than sampling during composing.

Also, I sort of gave up on the idea of multitracking in a DAW years ago since I found that I got really bogged down. However I am getting more interested in refining my sound rather than simply jamming things out in one session so maybe I need to consider that again.

Bro, this is absolutley brilliant! Post more, cause you will definitely find some listeners here!

I've made this two months ago, while going through a bad depression, and just kinda left it sitting there, but I like how it turned out.

I've sampled "yazoo - dont go", real simple stuff, was so out of it, that I've thrown some things that shouldnt really sound good together, but somehow it works imo. What do you think?

I like this! The way the beat comes in at an unexpected moment shifts the way you hear the Yazoo sample in a funky and interesting way. I dig the high frequency sample with the vinyl crackles too, it adds a really satisfying texture.

Tried to address the repetitiveness problem with loops that I was having with a slight timing glitch effect on this track:

Sounds really good. I actually don't find your music repetetive, because the texture of your sounds is great. I think, that it could benefit from a little repetetivnes, in a way, because the drums for instance surprised me (in a good way) - they sound as if you put them in water, and ran electricity through it.

Looping them a little bit longer maybe, along with the first loop of synth, before making a switch, would give me time to appriciate them more without a distraction, you know what I mean? Would sound very hipnotic.

I might be alone in this, but less is more, sometimes. I can listen to good loops for ages, and yours are great, from what I can tell.

If repetetivnes bugs you, work on it for sure, but imo its good to loop something that sounds great for as long as you find it necessary.

Other than that, its awesome.

I love the vibes in this. In the best way possible, I could also see this as a really awesome soundtrack for a video game, like in metroid or something. But it stands great on its own

That’s quite a compliment, I’m happy with a piece of music when it seems to enhance other activities.

Cool track, nothing wrong with tuned 808 kicks, what's not to love? Also, lovely image on the vid.

Thanks a lot! Well, nothing wrong with it, I guess. Im actually using it more now, cause I find it complements the type of music I make nowadays.

808 is just pure bass, that hits hard
