apologies for the amount of posts and threads in here, i get carried away

i realise there's a thread for everything music orientated to do with workflow and software etc but thought this might be a nice addition to this part of the forum as its a winner at another place i hang out and has garnered lots of advice, tips, constructive crisitcism and so on ... might be good to have a thread with forum members works in progress and sketches in

so if no one minds i'll start ...
was wanting to make something vaguely hip hop, mellow with crunchy electronica and ended up with this

no idea where its going just yet and am not entirely happy with the organ which was a last minute addition (might swap synths for that) :o

only a minute or so of noodles and have been on cans so dunno how it fares on monitors

like it. lots of nice in and out (if ever a phrase there was) trickery. the drones coming in at the end sound cool also. could be a great tune if it's expanded a little more. what did you do it in?

Live with padKONTROL and microKONTROL with various Ableton built in bits and third party stuff, few recorded snippets of audio done with my new mic, samples etc

cheers man, quite a compliment coming from yourself ... originally the track was going to be for a young MC i know to puts vocals with for my album but now i'm not so sure ... think it'd have to be altered a fair bit really and obviously extended out into a full song structure

might put it to rest for a few days and come back to it :)

Great! :) Love the organic sounding bass sweep and the chord that comes in later. Finish it :).

Here's my most recent sketch.

that's lovely! the vocodered vocal really adds a shimmer to what is a beautiful piece already

keen to hear the full thing and have you got any collections of your music available?

Thanks man :).

I've never released anything officially except my OOT2 submission (last track), and here is a directory containing - mostly unfinished - music.

Short, but sounds great so far, will you add beats or will it stay a soundscape like this throughout the rest of the song? Both would work I think.

Here's a new one I'm working on called "Shiva". There are some bass anomalies that I need to square away. The bass frequencies reach down to 30-60 hertz that seems to be generating some atonal vibrations, so I need to smooth that out and then maybe add some background sounds. But other than that I am really excited about this one.

Hey, perfect thread right now. I've been a musician for years but am just getting comfortable with Ableton - your thread on VSTs was a great resource, in particular for leading me to KVR - and have just finished up the first track that I'm happy with enough to share out for feedback. Here's a direct link -

jonnyjj74, your song totally reminds me of late 80's early 90's Tangerine Dream! Awesome!

Sorry for the plug but idmforums.com is a great resource for all things production related.

Johnny I just wanted to say I love your tunes, particularly "Blurry Nautilus" from Citrus Drop. Fantastic song.

Here's a little tidbit I scrounged up from the depths of my external hard-drive. I have a plethora of songs like this to pull out every once in a while.

Woops, the track I posted above was apparently not set for public view. Should be good to go now, here's the link again -

I've been having a big mind blank lately. No inspiration, no creativity.

It's annoying. :(

Thanks! I don't know that I've gotten that late into their discography. I've mainly just stuck to the early 70s material.
